1889 AUTOGRAPH COLLECTING REFERENCE BOOK ON CD

An ARCHIVAL CD ROM of a RARE, OLD reference book on collecting autographs of famous Americans. A valuable reference for anyone collecting, buying, or selling autographs and signatures of famous people. Also just a great book to read about early American history & Americana.

This CD Rom contains a copy of the following old book (the original of which is quite hard to find):

AN ESSAY ON THE AUTOGRAPHIC COLLECTIONS OF THE SIGNERS OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE AND OF THE CONSTITUTION. from Vol. Xth, Wisconsin Historical Society Collections. Revised and Enlarged by LYMAN C. DRAPER, LL.D. NEW YORK: BURNS & SON, Publishers, 744 Broadway, 1889. 117 pages.

Famous historian/genealogist Lyman C. Draper describes in detail each of the twenty-two complete sets in existence in 1889 of autographs of signers of the Declaration of Independence. He discusses the rarity of the signatures of Button Gwinnett, Thomas Lynch, Jr., etc. He also describes major incomplete sets, collections of signers of the Constitution, Stamp Act Congress, Albany Conference, Hartford Convention, Presidents & Vice Presidents of the US, Revolutionary War Generals, and much more.

The information contained in this book would be particularly valuable to collectors and dealers of American autographs today--perhaps allowing them to trace back and provide provenance for documents in their collections and appearing on today's market.

Draper also writes about (and includes an appendix on) famous FORGERS of autographs and documents working in America before 1890 including James W. Turner & the infamous Robert Spring who once assumed to be a daughter of Confederate General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson and carried on correspondence in her name to sell his counterfeit wares.

Draper describes in detail the known portraits and and engravings of the Signers including the work of Trumbull, Hunt, & Lossing. He details all major American and British collectors of the time including: Mrs. Eliza Allen, Ferd. J. Dreer, Dr. Thomas A. Emmet, Simon Gratz, T. Stamford Raffles, Rev. Dr. Wm. H. Sprague, Professor E.H. Leffingwel, Dr. John S.H. Fogg, and many more.
