1863 CIVIL WAR PATRIOTIC SONG BOOK ON CD
An ARCHIVAL CD ROM of a RARE, OLD SONGBOOK containing the words and musical
scores of about 40 patriotic Union songs published in midst of the American Civil War.
Contains the exact versions as they were played and sung
in Army camps and on the homefront.
This CD Rom contains a copy of the
following old book:
THE PATRIOTIC GLEE BOOK,, Published by H. M. HIGGINS, 117 Randolph
Street, Chicago, Ill. Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1863
by H.M. Higgins, in the Clerk's Office of the District Court, for the Northern
District of Illinois. "Songs are harmonized and arranged for four voices,
with an accompaniment for the Piano Forte, Organ, or Melodeon."
As stated in the book's preface:
"In presenting this Work to the public, we desire them to receive it, not only
as a Social Offering, but also, a tribute to Freedom. The Songs are full of
that Patriotic spirit which fires the hearts of our Union loving citizens.
Most of the Poetry and Music having been written since the commencement of
the war. The following list comprise a few of the Songs that may be
found among its pages--
"Brave men, behold your fallen Chief; or, Tribute to Ellsworth;" "Dying Volunteer;"
"Oh, Fallen Hero;" "Our Country's in Danger;" "Irish Volunteer;" "New Star
Spangled Banner;" "Fill up the Ranks, Boys;" "Patriot Mother's Prayer; or, Oh, God
Protect my Boy."
Other songs in this CD-book include: "Hail Columbia;" "Marseilles Hymn;" "Negro
Emancipation Song;" "Old Abe has gone and did it, boys;" "Scott and the Veteran;"
"Slave's Consolation;" "The Contraband's Jubilee;" "The Stars and Stripes;"
"The Union, Now and Forever;" "Uncle Sam's Boys;" "Volunteer's Grave;"
"We are Coming Father Abraham; or, Three Hundred Thousand More;" "Volunteer's Wife"; "We
are the Gay and Happy Suckers;" "The Battle Cry of
Freedom;" and "Yankee Doodle".
This CD Rom runs under Netscape or Internet Explorer browsers versions 4 or
higher (on- or off-line). It navigates like a web site, but pages load
instantly. Minimum requirements Windows 95 or 98, Pentium (or equivalent),
16 meg ram, 8x CD drive. Javascript must be enabled. Best viewed at screen
resolution of 800 x 600.
