RARE CIVIL WAR CSA PACIFIST HISTORY BK ON CD ROM

An ARCHIVAL CD ROM of the following hard-to-find Civil War history book.

Sanger, S.F. and D. Hays.: The Olive Branch of Peace and Good Will to Men: Anti-War History of the Brethren and Menonnites, The Peace People of the South during the Civil War 1861-1865. Published by Brethren Publishing House, Elgin, IL, 1907.

This work tells the history of the trials and experiences of the Brethren and Mennonites in the Southern Confederacy during the Civil War. Refusing to bear arms because of their religious beliefs, members suffered persecution, imprisonment and even death (despite an act passed by the Confederate Congress exempting the Brethren from service). The incidents described mostly occurred in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, West Virginia, and in Tennessee. These include: Staunton, Harrisonburg, Mt Jackson, Augusta County, & Rockingham County, Virginia; Moorefield, Petersburg, and Monroe County, West Virginia; Limestone, Knoxville, and Washington County, Tennessee. An interesting look at a little-known aspect of Confederate Civil War history. The original book is not listed in Broadfoot or Nevins.
