Artistically Illustrated by
THE WERNER COMPANY
Akron, Ohio
1900
The Werner Company of Akron was at the forefront of new developments in printing technology
at the end of the 19th century. Chromolithographic color plates depict the uniforms of officers
and enlisted men of various famous German Army Regiments performing military tasks. The
naval section shows uniforms of officers and enlisted Seamen and Marines as well as principal
ships of the German Navy. Illustrations also show weapons and equiptment including a few
aircraft and dirigibles in use at the time.
Relatively few copies of this book have survived intact over the years, largely due to its size and
the overwhelming temptation to break up the book to gain the colorful plates. The original
volume often lists for hundreds of dollars on internet book lists.
The FORTY-ONE magnificent chromolithograph illustrations look great on the computer
screen. Careful scanning captures the depth & detail of the work and each page can be
MAGNIFIED.
The CD runs under 4.0 or later versions of Netscape or Internet Explorer (on or
off-line). It navigates like a web site, but downloads are instantaneous. Minimum requirements
Windows 95, Pentium (or equivalent), 16 meg ram, 8x CD drive. Javascript must be enabled.
Best viewed at screen resolution of 800 x 600.
