1869 VA TAX RECEIPT BILLIARD TABLES, GOLD WATCHES, ETC
Interesting old printed receipt filled out in manuscript 7 x 7” for collecting INTERNAL REVENUE TAXES on items in the 5th District of Virginia during RECONSTRUCTION era after the Civil War. The receipt specifies BILLIARD TABLES FOR PRIVATE USE, CARRIAGES, (SILVER) PLATE, and GOLD WATCHES. This receipt is made out to B. H. Moulton who was a doctor in Bedford County, Virginia. He had to pay $1.00 tax for his gold watch. Moulton was born in 1818 and died in 1886. He was educated at the UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA in Charlottesville, VA. He served in both the Virginia Legislature and State Senate.
