PEARL HARBOR & CSA GENERALS IN 1941 LETTER
An interesting combination of American History. This Letter from The Bobbs Merrill Company
Publishers, Indianapolis, about 7 x 10 ½", was written just 3 days after the Japanese attack on
Pearl Harbor, to Lanier Merritt of Nashville Tennessee. The content concerns publishing his
collection of pictures of CONFEDERATE CIVIL WAR GENERALS as follows:
"If it were not for war conditions -- the shortage of metal, the shortage of paper, and
increasing costs -- we would be proud and happy to publish your remarkable collection of pictures
of Confederate Generals. As it is the undertaking would involve an expense disproportionate to
any sale which we might anticipate. It is with great regret, therefore, that I am returning the
collection to you today. . . . p.s. The sketches of General Armstrong and General Gregg are
inclosed herewith.". Signed by D.L. Chambers, President. Good condition typed letter on
yellow stationary.
