1880s CABINET PHOTO OF A FIREMAN WEARING PARADE RIBBONS

Nice old photograph of a young man who appears to be a fireman judging from his fire-style Plastron shirtfront. A plastron is the name for the broad piece of material placed on the chest of many firemen’s (and military) uniforms and held in place by two rows of buttons. Unfortunately little clear information can be made out on the ribbons pinned to his chest, but they appear to be fire parade ribbons quite common during the 1880s era. He sits in an ornate wicker chair wearing starched white uniform-style pants and parade-style white gloves. His attractive wife (or sister?) stands beside him with her arm resting on the top rung of the chair back.

This is a Cabinet Card style photograph 4.25 x 6.5” with excellent contrast and clarity. The upper right corner is broken off, but the image is otherwise in quite good condition. There is no information written or printed on the photo.
