RARE 1870s DOUBLE STEREOCARD WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS WV +
TWO
RARE VIEWS on one stereo card mount.
This
is an EARLY (1870s) flat yellow-mount stereoview card 3 3/8 x 7".
One
side is a nice square-cut albumen view with “WHITE SULPHER SPRINGS, VA” written
on mount (I assume this is actually WVA, but there was also a Montgomery White
Sulphur Springs in Montgomery County, VA).
Shows buildings, grounds, gazebo & people in foreground. Some stains (see scan) o/w good condition.
On
the other side of the yellow mount is a town view taken from a building roof
showing church, factories, storefronts, etc.
Not sure where this location is but probably also in West Virginia or
Southwestern Virginia. Under
magnification one can make out an interesting political or advertising banner
pasted on the side of a building at the middle right of the view. The portraits of two men (candidates?) are
clearly shown (see enlarged scan below). Few light stains, o/w good
condition. Both sides view 3D well in a
stereoscope.
Price= $95.00
