OLD 1850s AUGUSTA CO VA SLAVERY TAX RECEIPT
Old 1 ¾ x 6 ¼” printed SLAVE receipt filled out in dark ink for ARCHIBALD McPETERS TO THE SHERIFF OF AUGUSTA CO. FOR TAXES OF 185_. McPeters owned FOUR SLAVES. The old receipt also lists HORSES, METAL CLOCKS, GOLD WATCHES, SILVER & LAPINE WATCHES & 4-WHEEL CARRIAGES. Receipt is signed by W. H. Dorman, DS (Deputy Sheriff?). Quite good condition as shown in scan.
