OLD WWII US AIR FORCE PHOTO OF GENERAL JOHN K CANNON
Scarce original old World War II U. S. Air Force glossy 8 x 10” black and white photograph. Photo shows John Kenneth Cannon as a 4-star General in the US Air Force. There is no name or identification on the photo, but it appears to be Cannon just after WWII. Photo is in quite good condition, except that it is rather crudely trimmed along the left edge.
“GENERAL JOHN KENNETH CANNON (1892-1955) was a distinguished Air Force leader whose career spanned World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. An infantry officer in World War I, he transferred to the Army Air Corps, became a pursuit pilot, Commander of Pursuit Squadrons and Groups in the United States and Hawaii, the first Director of Flying at the Advanced Flying School, and served a tour as Chief of the U.S. Military Mission in Argentina.
In World War II he commanded a unit in the first landings in Africa, became commander of the 12th Bomber Command, the 12th Air Force, and the Mediterranean Allied Tactical Air Force.
Later assignments, all served with distinction, included command of U.S. Air Forces in Europe, the USAF Air Training Command, and the Tactical Air Command.”
