OLD 1839 BEDFORD COUNTY VA TAX RECEIPT FOR 3 SLAVES

Nice old printed document (about 3.5 x 6.5”) filled out in manuscript for payment of taxes on THREE SLAVES & four horses, “TO THE SHERIFF OF BEDFORD COUNTY.” Four dollars and ten cents in taxes paid by farmer Forest Wheat. John W. Jones, deputy for sheriff William R. Jones, signed the receipt.

There is about 3” of separation along the weakened bottom fold line, about half as much along the top fold line, and the upper right corner is chipped as shown in scan. Otherwise the receipt is in good condition on paper of good rag content.
