OLD ICE CREAM STORE FRONT IN 1890s PHOTOGRAPH

FOUR serving girls pose in the doorway of this 1890s cardboard-mounted photograph 4 ½ x 8". They work in an ICE CREAM shop and there are two signs to that effect in the windows which also hold various candy & confections, as well as baked goods--donuts, cookies, bread loaves, etc. The four women wear large white aprons. Their store is next to the “White and Goddard Law Office”. At the lower right side of the photo a shadow can be seen which may be the person taking the photograph. On the back written in blue ink is the information: “Mamma extreme left. Aunt Ellen extreme right. Hattie Stevenson one of the others.” There is a ½" gouge in the cardboard on the back but it hasn’t broken through the photograph. There are several creases along the left side of the photo, and the lower left corner is creased & weakened. The worst damage is in the upper right corner which has BROKEN OFF the photograph (see top view in scan). Few other scrapes and spots (see scan). Still, quite an interesting old ICE CREAM photo. Scan shows front & reverse of photo & enlarged detail.
