CHILD & TOY ELEPHANT PROP "TAKEN IN MAMMOTH WAGON" CDV PHOTO
Old c1860s Carte de Visite photograph 2.5 x 4”. Little child is posed next to a toy or stuffed elephant which just about has to be a PROP, as “Taken at the MAMMOTH WAGON by Dougherty” is the backmark. Must have been a traveling photographic gallery. At any rate, it is rather unusual to find a toy elephant in a cdv photo.
Cardboard backing of this CDV is somewhat warped, and there are a few small splits in the emulsion across the middle of the photo (see scan), otherwise good condition as shown in scan.
