OLD PHOTO c1890 OF TAILOR SHOP GALLIA ST PORTSMOUTH OH

Old Cabinet-style photograph 4.25 x 6.5” c1890 showing a storefront with a man and 5 children posing in the doorway. On back of the photo is a period inscription “27 (or 29) Gallia St. Portsmouth, Ohio” written in pencil. There is a store sign in the photo but the only word easily deciphered is “TAILOR.” The man in the doorway holds what is perhaps a pair of shears, and there appears to be a hanging bolt of cloth as well as his worktable visible behind him. Beneath the photo some of the children are named in pencil but the inscription for this man is just “father.”

The cardboard mount has a half-inch break along the lower edge. The photo paper has a few wrinkles at the bottom edge and the image is overall of WEAK CONTRAST (see top image in scan). Otherwise good condition, and uncommon occupational subject matter. Scan shows front, reverse, & enlarged detail.

Price= $75.00
