BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL OGDEN PRINT OF 1835 US ARMY UNIFORMS

Plate XVII—large (about 14.5 x 16.5”) ORIGINAL c1889 chromolithograph color print from the book: UNIFORM OF THE ARMY OF THE UNITED STATES, ILLUSTRATED FROM 1774-1889, Authorized by the Secretary of War and prepared under the supervision of the Quartermaster General S. B. Holabird, lithographed by G.H. Buek & Company, NY and published by B.M. Whitlock, NY. The artist chosen to draw the series was H. A. Ogden, who specialized in military subjects. Ogden’s superb paintings of army dress & field uniforms were "long regarded as the masterpiece of American military art."

This print is Plate XVII showing 1835-1850 Full Dress uniforms for Privates of Infantry, Privates of Artillery, with service chevrons, Sergeant of Artillery, Musician (Private of Infantry), Corporal of Infantry, and Sergeant of Dragoons. The plate number and description is printed below the chromolithograph, and “H. A. Ogden” is signed (facsimile) in the print.

Slight stain line about 3” into print in upper left corner (see scan). Vertical line from original book binding running down length of the page about ½” from left edge. Otherwise the print is in quite good condition on heavy off-white paper (actually more like sturdy cardboard). Scan shows two sides of print (as it fits on scanner) and enlarged detail.
This original old print is colorful, attractive, and super for framing.
