RARE 2-SIDED 1872 BOSTON FIRE STEREOVIEW CARD
A
RARE 2-sided, BEFORE AND AFTER albumen, yellow & light green-mount
stereocard of the GREAT BOSTON FIRE of November 9 & 10, 1872. The first side shows the “NATIONAL REVERE
BANK” with people standing in front, horses & wagons, and several other
visible street signs. The other side of
the card shows the BURNED-OUT RUINS of the same building. The main feature in the photo is the wreck
of a large safe. The following legible
message has been scrolled on the door of the safe: “NATIONAL REVERE
BANK. This safe fell from the 2nd
floor. Contents uninjured. C.E.
Kershaw, Late Edwards & Kershaw, Maker, 11 & 13 Green St.,
Boston.” The stereo says at the side “COMBINATION VIEWS.” The card is
in good condition with nice rich tones to the old albumen photographs except
for SEVERE STAINING along the right edge of the “before” photo (see scan). This damage/discoloration is on the surface
so that the cardboard mount is still quite stiff. Measures about 3 ˝" x 7" and views 3D very nicely in a
stereoscope. Scan shows both sides of this 2-sided stereocard and enlarged
detail.
