This is an unusual item. It
appears to be an albumen photo cut down from an old Civil War era STEREO
CARD. The photo is still mounted on the
flat yellow-mount of the original stereoview card. The image had been sealed under mat and glass for a sixth-plate
case (2 3/4" x 3 1/4"). The
paper seal appears to be of the period, but has now been opened. A nice Civil War era albumen photo in good
condition otherwise, and the subject matter is quite wonderful (see scans of
detail below). It has a mat, glass, and
brass preserver but has NO CASE. Good
genre African American subject.
