View of the Black Forest, Mount Hope and Sierra Prieta (west central Arizona near Prescott National Forest), 8 x 10”.

Stone lithograph from U.S.P.R.R. Exp. (Exploration) & Surveys. In the 1850's the U.S. government ordered exploration and surveys for the purpose of determining a route for a transcontinental railroad (U.S. Pacific Railroad). A team of naturalists and artists accompanied the expedition, and their work was published as a part of the official report.

This print is from the report on the 35th. Parallel Topographical Report. Below the image it notes: ""E. Stout after a sketch by A. H. Campbell...lith. of Sarony, Major & Knapp, New York.

This print is stained down the right side and is somewhat dark and age toned (see scan), o/w good condition. (Ignore the 2 vertical bands down the scan—they’re created by my scanner).
