2 OLD PHOTOS BASEBALL, FARMING & MORE WILLOW GLEN c1894

TWO nicely composed old cardboard mounted photographs 5 x 8” taken outdoors in August about 1894-95. Both photos were found together and have identical mounts, emulsion, exposures, etc., so they are probably related.

--One photo shows 3 men & 3 women laying in a sort of circle in a grassy rural field. There are some barns(?) in the distant background. Written on the reverse in ink (period) is “WILLOW GLEN AUGUST 11, 1895.” The names of the six individuals are written on the reverse in pencil (later).

--The second photo has “AUGUST 1894” written on the reverse in pencil (a later inscription) and was actually probably taken in August 1895 like the first picture. There is no other ID on this second photo, but the subject matter is of interest.
Two women, four men, two children, and one dog pose in an interesting arrangement for the photograph. The two young boys sit in a hammock at center with the dog lying at their feet. The boys appear to be holding a baseball & bat or some other type of ball & stick up to the camera. The four young men surround the boys and at least three of them appear to be holding tools—a rake, a saw, and some other tool with a long handle, probably a scythe.

Both these old photos are rather light in contrast (see scan) but are otherwise in good condition. Scan show front, back, and enlarged detail. Interesting old photos of a lost era in American history.
