1933 ADVERTISING PHOTO BLACK-FACE CIRCUS CLOWN & MULE
This is a rare photo page from the promotional notebook of a booking agent for circus acts. The page measure 9 x 10"" and is backed with linen for durability. Numerous fair & circus promoters seeking acts to fit their entertainment operating budgets must have turned this page. Two large ring-binder holes along the left edge show where the page was fit into the agent’s notebook.
The page is a glossy black & white photograph of a clown in minstrel black face dressed in a top hat & suit. He rides atop a specially designed buggy pulled by a small mule. The rest of the page is made up of smaller, drawn pictures of the clown & his mule in various illustrations of their acts of comedy. One of these sketches is signed “Sanderson (19)33.” Good condition as shown in scan below.
